How to use the soul’s role in personality typing to rediscover you is the path you must take to figure out who you really are. I can honestly tell you I discovered this beautifully inspired aspect of my personality type during my messy-midlife unraveling. It was a crossroads, one that lasted 7 years. This was my life path. Yours will be different. And if I have anything to do with it, it will be easier. Because truly knowing yourself removes the tough edges of life’s most challenging moments. This is what I learned going through my 7-year tsunami. I want to teach you how to connect your personality in a way that supports your soul’s intention. Once this union takes place, expect joyful days, passion, and purpose to show up like never before.
What I learned going through my life tsunami was I didn’t know who I was. I believed in my FalseSelf, which at the time I thought was me. When in fact, it was the voice of fear saying, ‘settle, it’s fine you can live with it. It’s better than nothing.” WTF! What nobody said, Nina, walk away because you are losing yourself.”
Your Rediscover Journey is Your Own
For some of you, you may not experience the devasting life tsunami crisis I did. Yet, maybe you’re feeling anxious, fearful, financially stressed, and your high-hopes for having it all have been dashed by your partner, friends, or family. Have started asking yourself life’s burning questions:
Is this it?
I know there must be more?
I’m bored with life?
My career is soul-sucking.
Have You Started Questioning Everything
Questioning my life had begun long before my 7-year, messy-mid-life tsunami became a reality. Yet, I never took time for self-exploration. You can’t ask or answer a question when you don’t know who you are. My questions and answers didn’t come until I was midway into my 7-year tsunami.
In those first couple of years, I was so busy trying to keep a roof over my head for my son and me that I didn’t have time to question anything. Here again, my soul had other plans. One morning, I woke up and couldn’t get out of bed after a month-long struggle with financial issues. It was a sign from above, I needed to stop, and stillness was what I needed. From that day forward, I committed to stillness practices in yoga, walking meditation, spiritual reading, and being in nature. It’s all apart of my ongoing self-discovery journey.
This was also when I began my quest to discover the soul’s role in personality typing to rediscover my True Self, the self I was meant to be. And that’s when the questions started:
Who am I?
Where is my life going?
What if I surrounded myself with believe that believe in me, instead of ones that ridicule my ideas?
I started to ask myself what are my dreams, my ways and my desires?
I started thinking what if I please myself instead of everyone else?
What does my future hold?
What happens if I stay or what happens if I leave?
A Time For Reflection And Doing the Soul Work
When you’re a single mom, you got to figure things out fast. One of the things I did focus on was revisiting an extraordinary retreat course. I attended spiritual weekend retreats for a year, learning, breathwork, personality typing, the Enneagram, and other metaphysical modalities. My mentor, and spiritual psychologist, Dr. June Lee Nix, hosted the entire event with a cadre of other well-known specialists. The retreat was, entitled; Transology; Your Life’s Potential.
As I started to reread the workbooks and my retreat dream journals, I realized how out of balance I was. I was totally unconscious. And I was numbing myself with shopping, booze, and overworking. Sound familiar? How many of us do this? We fool ourselves into thinking It will be OK if I do this, buy this, achieve this, please, be better. Wishing for more of the same didn’t change a dam thing. It just kept me stuck.
Discovering How my Personality Type Supported My Soul Work Was a Huge Ah-Hah Moment
What grabbed my attention during the retreat was the work on personality typing. I began to look closely at myself and realized how far I had strayed. I was actually living from my inferior personality trait (the trait you supposedly use the least), which I’ve dubbed my Shadow trait. Why? Because it’s in opposition to my dominant trait (your primary trait), which I believe is rooted in the True Self.
This happens to so many of us because we hop on the train of life moving so fast we never figure our True Self. Is it any wonder that we experience dominant personality exhausting when we encounter a major crossroads in life? Here’s what I mean. Our dominant trait has become buried with ego-trash, everyone else’s values, negative beliefs, unrealistic expectations, many of which are inherited in childhood, society, the media, and our country culture…
That’s exactly what happened to me. And I believe it happens to a lot of us when we go through a major life disruption. We believe our ego-personality is the only way. I’m here to tell you it’s the wrong way. A Divinely Inspired personality is so much healthier. And living through a 7-year life tsunami is proof enough for me. I’m now on the other side, confident, feeling powerful, and I no longer put up with unsupportive or negative folks. Life’s too short.
Using Personality Typing and Learning the Soul’s Role as a Reinvention Tool to Your TrueSelf: Top Three Tips
Here are a few steps you can take today to start using your personality type as a reinvention tool to your TrueSelf. And of course, many more steps will be discussed in the future for learning the soul’s role as a reinvention tool, but for now, here are the top three:
First, know your type?
I knew my four-letter archetype ENFP, but that’s about it. I had no idea how my traits operated or that I was relying so heavily on my primary trait that it became unbalanced, taking me down a path to a FalseSelf. Of course, I wasn’t aware of this, so I carried on like everything was perfect. Which I knew deep in my soul, it was not. I believe we all do this to some extent, but when you build a life upon pretenses, it eventually crumbles like mine did?
Second What’s Triggering You?
A key to helping you rediscover yourself is to look at repetitive behaviors, triggers that start you questioning your life. If the same trigger comes up over and over, your soul is gently telling you it’s time to understand yourself better. For me, I kept on pleasing everyone to the extent that I didn’t honor myself. This behavior alone led to poor choices, a lack of self-esteem, and, honestly, anger. Why? Because I was lying to myself. Never good.
Third, Start Accepting Others As Life Teachers
People are in your life to teach you. These people may come and go as you learn the lessons, but you choose them for your soul’s evolution. It is the path of discovering your TrueSelf, the truth of who you are! It is not easy, but the truths that came about during my 7-year tsunami were invaluable. I know I can stand on my own two feet, nor do I need to please others for approval. My life doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s. I’ve found my joy, my path, and my delicious Why!
Soul’s Role in Typing to Rediscover You
Rediscovering yourself is not for the faint of heart. You need to be brave enough to let everything go. Leave what you thought you knew behind. And I mean everything if necessary. Your home, job, lifestyle, old behaviors, beliefs, and blame. OMG, I had to do it all and I’m telling you the road was a bumpy one, to put it mildly.
I want to stress the importance of committing to stillness practice, the best time to hear what your soul has to say. I don’t care if it’s ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes at night. It’s mission-critical. Don’t be like me and become so busy that you don’t give yourself the presence of mind to honor yourself. This isn’t the time in your life to be unwise.
Another area I really want you to look at is guilt and shame. OMG, I had to go deep on these to start unpacking them. What I’ve come to know is I made the best decisions I could. I wasn’t aware and was operating from an unhealthy self. The choices I made reflected this. Another awareness that I’ve come to accept is the lessons, struggles, challenges, and hardships I faced all were a part of my soul’s evolution. I choose them to evolve and become a better me. And honestly, I would have never done the hard work if I was full of joy, success, and life was a box of chocolates. Life doesn’t work this way.
