Does your personality hold the secret to a happiessr life? We are all born with a personality. Everybody has one ⏤ , yet many of us, especially when a significant life upheaval hits and we are faced with looking at who we really are. The question, Who am I, arises.
The kids may have left the nest, divorce is at an all-time high, and a career change may be on the horizon. Many individuals care for elderly parents and their health issues, too. An array of life changes hit at midlife, so it’s no wonder the term mid-life crisis, defined as a crisis of self-identity and self-confidence, is a real issue.

Now back to the story.
Is Your Personality the Secret to a Happier Life?
- Dr. Joe Dispenza defines personality as your personal reality,
- The Bhagavad Gita describes personality as your Divine Core,
- Carl Jung is a Swiss psychologist who developed a theory of personality. He defines eight personality
- types based on the opposing attitudes of introversion and extroversion. According to Jung, attitudes refer to a predisposition to behave in a specific manner.
I hold all of the above definitions to be true. And I recognize that we’re all born with a personality that is childlike, pure in essence, and completely aligned with your true self. When you commit to fully accepting, understanding, and relying on your personality while pairing it with a spiritual practice, you begin to see life struggles resolve easier, always for your highest good. At the same time, an underlying peace and happiness prevail.
Thinking is difficult, that’s why most people judge. Carl Jung, Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology.
A Closer Look at Personalitty Typing and Happiness
For more than two decades, I’ve been studying personality typing. Jungian philosophies which state childhood affects adulthood, and aspirations can inspire our futures. I found these philosophies to be true for me as I witnessed them first hand, stumbling blindly into a 7-year, mid-life tsunami.
I find our struggles stem from honoring false beliefs that aren’t meant for us to honor. You know, the baggage our families, society, or our country cultures tells us to believe. These beliefs tell us to succeed at all costs. We need to get a degree and work our asses off to get the corner office. Get married, have kids, buy the HGTV home, and don’t forget the luxury vehicle. Many of us, myself included, don’t question these beliefs. We’ve been indocturnated our entire live, conditioned to believe we are lesser than and unworthy. The absolute truth is we are all powerful, Gods and Goddesses in our own right, but the 1% want to keep us from our true selves.
We move through life on the coattails of another’s thinking without questioning or believing that we do have the grace and power to choose differently. Divine Intelligence tells us so. If we go against mass consciousness, we think ourselves into this thought; I’ll become disowned, an outcast, or rejected by everyone I know.
What if being disowned by everyone you “thought you knew” would be the best thing to ever happen to you? – Nina Zapala, Spiritual Personality Type Shaman
Superhero Duo: Personality Typing and Spirituality – Does Your Personality Hold the Secret
Here’s an example of what I learned about the personality trait of extroverted intuition (Ne). Raised in a lower-middle-class family, I bought into the idea of working hard, faking it until you make it. I call this imposter syndrome. I accepted these untruths as my own, which switched on unhealthy aspects of my personality, locking me in environments that limited my freedom and creative abilities, which are core aspects of (Ne).
Don’t get me wrong; I was still creative. Hell, I won awards for my work. But there was an underlying conflict between the lies I was telling myself and my true self. Living a life of untruths sucked the truth out of me and dimmed my light. I was stuck in routines and dealing with the small details of the day, both of which I loathed. Midlife hit, and the train came off the tracks. I started to ask the hard questions:
– What do I really want?
– Why am I so bored? I’m traveling the world yet…
– Is this all there is,
– Why am I so angry, frustrated, exhausted,
– I have all this stuff, and I’m not fulfilled.
Triggers Reveal the Secrets Within Your Personality Type
For decades I ignored my triggers, which I now believe are fears that shed light and urge you to awaken to things about yourself that need changing. Triggers can be gentle nudges from your higher self, calling you to pay attention ⏤ and accept new beliefs, ideas, and ways. Or if you’re like me and ignore them a tsuanmi will hit your life shores.
I ignored my triggers, as I was too busy trying to do and be it. My triggers called and called patiently,, delivering many signs, most of which I ignored until I didn’t. I started to see that I didn’t belong in the corporate world, so much forcing and going nowhere? I was a big picture thinker, yet I was bogged down and bored by the minutia of it all? My higher self continued to ask, “Is this what you want?” This five-word question changed my life – it introduced a transformation 7-year tsunami, encouraging me to begin anew.

A Midlife Awakening
Can we please change the term midlife crisis to a mid-life awakening? I no longer consider my mid-life-tsunami a crisis. Yes, it was an uber challenging period in my life, but it also awakened me to the truth of who I am. I now embrace my personality type, the DIVINE core, the organic whole, if you will. Plus, I have committed and dedicated time for a spiritual practice–everyday!
In these last ten years, I don’t struggle as much. When I do, I let go of difficulties faster. If I have a challenge, I turn to Divine Intelligence, listen to the messages of my intuition, and accept the support and love from trusted friends. I don’t have to do it all by myself.
What I don’t do is compare myself to everyone on the planet. This comparing nonsense stops when you realize your personality is not like others. So why create from a place that’s not your own. It’s the imposter syndrome rearing its ugly head. You’re letting another person author your story!
I can honestly say I’m much happier today than I’ve ever been. Quiet time is now my bliss vs. the busyness of yesterday. Having to be seen has been replaced with time by myself, which I now crave and covet.
And here I am, starting a new life in the middle of my life. If I fail, I fail. But at least I tried and learned a lot along the way. Isn’t that why we are all here, to learn and grow?
